organicARCHITECT is proud to sponsor the following event: The Death of Environmentalism And
the Birth of the Commons Movement Eight years after becoming the youngest president of the Sierra Club in the organization's 100-plus year history, Adam Werbach today asserts that the old assumptions that underlie modern environmentalism should die so that something new can be born. Werbach, who was mentored by the late, great environmental warrior, David Brower, will reflect on the need for a dramatic renovation of our thinking in order to meet current political challenges. In light of the November 2 election results, Werbach argues, environmentalists must question our most basic assumptions about counts and what doesn't as "environmental," whether the "environmentalist" identity helps or hinders our political effectiveness, and how we can create a more powerful movement focused around vision and values instead of problems and policies. Agree or disagree, Werbach's speech is sure to infuse a dose of energy and urgency to efforts by the environmental movement to rethink everything in the face of its repeated political setbacks.
