In looking at finishes, we play what we call "The Substitution Game."

FINISHES
For every traditional (ie: toxic) material, we can substitute a healthier, green one. In most cases, the substitute looks the same. There are, however, many interesting and unique green finishes, such as:

  • Wallcovering made from leaves and bark
  • Floors made of grass stalks
  • Computer milled panels

...and may more beautiful alternatives.

For every material, we look at the entire lifecycle and ask the following questions:

  • 1. Where did this material come from?
  • 2. What are the by-products of its' manufacturer?
  • 3. How is the material delivered and installed?
  • 4. How is the material maintained & operated?
  • 5. How healthy are the materials?
  • 6. What do we do with them once we are done with these materials?

By asking these questions, you can start to find methods to mitigate the negative impact of any material.
