organicARCHITECT was founded in 1997 by Eric Corey Freed as an alternative to the traditional design practice. Today, our firm has grown to be a national thought-leader on sustainable and innovative design. In 2012, we were named one of the 25 "Best Green Architecture Firms" in the US, and one of the "Top 10 Most Influential Green Architects."

We believe green design does not have to be boring. High-end design and environmental responsibility are not mutually exclusive. After all, in the (near) future all buildings will be green. We believe this to be inevitable.

For nearly two decades, we have helped hundreds of clients and expanded our services to meet their needs. In addition to architecture, we now provide consulting that goes beyond the building and into operations, product development, staff training and public policy.

organicARCHITECT was one of the first to be a San Francisco Certified Green Business and is a Member of the US Green Building Council as well having numerous other affiliations. organicARCHITECT Ltd. is a California corporation.

Select Studio Milestones

• 2012: organicARCHITECT forges new partnerships with several large firms to expand their sustainable design offerings.
• 2011: In this year alone, we train over 400 government employees and lecture to 10,000 people in sustainability.
• 2010: Our work in sustainable schools produces another book, "Sustainable School Architecture."
• 2009: Opens a Southern California office in Palm Desert, California to serve our growing list of city and county clients.
• 2008: Studio grows focus on sustainable city planning and urban redevelopment research.
• 2007: Eric celebrates our Tenth Anniversary with the release of his first book, "Green Building & Remodeling for Dummies."
• 2006: Design work begins on our first overseas project, and numerous others up and down the West Coast.
• 2005: Studio moves to larger space in San Francisco's historic Jackson Square District, in a light filled building once home to Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo.
• 2004: Studio becomes one of the first on the West Coast to provide LEED Documentation services, working on the first of dozens of LEED projects.
• 2003: Much of the year is spent working on The San Francisco Design Museum, and several exhibitions.
• 2002: Eric starts teaching and lecturing extensively around the country.
• 2001: Office grows to include larger commercial projects.
• 1999: We launch our internship program, hosting the first of dozens of students in our mentorship practice.
• 1998: Quickly we expand to greening hospitality projects. Our residential work also expands into active and deep green projects, including strawbale, rammed earth, and other green methods.
• 1997: Studio founded by Eric Corey Freed after moving to San Francisco from Santa Fe. Initially, we are a one-man studio designing green residential projects.

Award Winning: Named "Best Green Architect" by San Francisco Magazine in 2005 and "Best Visionary" in 2007; and "Green Visionary" by 7x7 Magazine in 2008.
